The New York Yankees have their eye on a new backup catcher.

The team has reached out to free agent catcher Tyler Flowers, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Flowers has received interest from multiple teams and is reportedly deciding between the Yankees, Braves and Rays.

If Flowers signs with the Yankees, he would serve as a backup to starter Brian McCann. The team already has an internal option for that role in prospect Gary Sanchez, meaning they either aren't sold on him or are looking to trade him. Sanchez hit .274/.330/.485 with 18 home runs and 62 RBI combined at Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre last season.

Flowers, 29, has played his entire career with the Chicago White Sox and is a career .223 hitter with 46 home runs.
