Yoenis Cespedes, Noah Syndergaard, Dexter Fowler will miss All-Star Game
The National League All-Star team has three new members -- and three injured stars who will no longer participate.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jay Bruce, Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte and San Diego Padres left-hander Drew Pomeranz were added to the NL team on Saturday.
They will replace New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, Chicago Cubs outfielder Dexter Fowler and New York Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard -- all of whom are battling injuries.
Cespedes left Friday's game because of a right quadriceps strain, Syndergaard was pulled from Friday's start in the fifth inning because of arm fatigue, and Fowler is on the disabled list because of a hamstring injury.
Cespedes is considered day to day, and there isn't much concern about Syndergaard at this point, either.
"They are talking about fatigue more than anything," Mets manager Terry Collins said Saturday about Syndergaard, according to The Associated Press. "There was no discomfort. There is absolutely no tightness. There was no stiffness. There was no pain. There was no twinge. ... We'll give him two to three days to let the arm relax and then we have to get him throwing again."
