2017 Formula One World Championship Schedule Revealed
The 2017 Formula One schedule has been released by the FIA and it looks a lot like the 2016 Formula One schedule. Check out next year’s calendar here.
Formula One fans may experience some deja vu next season, as the 2017 Formula One calendar was revealed by the FIA on Wednesday and doesn’t look that much different from the campaign that’s currently in its closing stages.
Next year the F1 championship will once again be made up of 21 races and run from late March until the end of November. Australia hosts the season premiere again, while the finale remains in Abu Dhabi, and all the venues will look familiar.
The biggest changes are just a handful of shifts in the running order.
There are two swaps between events – the race in China trades with Bahrain, while Malaysia leaps up on the calendar in a trade of spots with Singapore.
More downtime now exists between F1’s sole American race, the United States Grand Prix in Austin, and the league’s trip to Mexico. But that comes at the expense of shortening the gap between the Mexican Grand Prix and Brazil.
The calendar isn’t completely locked down – Montreal, Hockenheim and Interlagos are still pending confirmation for their respective races – but on the whole, the 2017 Formula One picture will be a lot like the one we’re looking at right now.
This is a consistency that’s always good to see in motorsports (as we discussed with the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series schedule), but will things like leaving less time to get from Mexico to Brazil wind up throwing a wrench in the plan? We’ll see next year.
