Alexis DeJoria suffered broken pelvis in NHRA crash at Sonoma
Alexis DeJoria was diagnosed with a fractured pelvis following a crash during Sunday’s Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals in Sonoma, California.
According to the NHRA, the 38-year-old Kalitta Motorsports Funny Car driver was taken to the trauma center following her crash in the first round eliminations, in which her Camry turned to the left shortly after leaving the line in a race against John Force.
The car made a hard impact with the left retaining wall, but DeJoria was able to get out of the car under her own power. However, she was transported to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, where she was diagnosed with a high-energy fracture of the left pelvis.
DeJoria will not require surgery. She was released from the hospital Sunday afternoon and will soon start physical therapy. She hopes to be back racing shortly, but there is no official timetable for her return.
DeJoria sits 10th in the points leaving Sonoma, and took a win back in April in Las Vegas.
