Chevy Camaro 1LE set to debut at Chicago Auto Show

Published Feb. 10, 2016 5:56 p.m. ET

Chevrolet will debut the 2017 Camaro in the sixth-generation 1LE track package at the Chicago Auto Show on Thursday.

For the first time, the 1LE package will be offered on the 1LT and 2LT coupes equipped with the 3.6L V6, along with the 1SS V8 models.

"The result delivers better performance in all measures," Oppenheiser said. "In our development tests, the V6 Camaro 1LE delivers lap times comparable with the previous-gen V8 model.

"The 2016 Camaro SS 1LE sets the new benchmark for the segment, lapping the Big Willow track at Willow Springs three seconds faster than the standard Camaro SS," Oppenheiser added.

Features on the Camaro LT 1LE including FE3 suspension components, Brembo 4-piston front brake calipers, along with a stain black hood, front splitter and unique three-piece rear spoiler.

"With a curb weight under 3,500 pounds, excellent front-to-rear weight balance and the precision of the FE3 suspension, the Camaro LT 1LE offers unmatched capability in its class," Oppenheiser said. "As a result, it offers incredible performance for Camaro V-6 customers."

The Camaro SS 1LE will have a 6.2L LT1 V8 at 455 horsepower and the new FE4 suspension -- a performance-oriented chassis system with tuning for dampers, springs and stabilizer bars.

Other features include Brembo brakes with new six-piston monobloc front red calipers, satin black hood, unique three-piece rear spoiler, satin Graphite front splitter and Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires.

Both Chevy Camaro models will be available for purchase in the fall, but prices have yet to be released.
