Difficult to predict Red Bull form in Mexico, says Mercedes technical boss

Mercedes technical boss Paddy Lowe says its impossible to predict how his team will fare against main rivals Red Bull in Mexico – despite the long pit straight appearing to favor the World Champions.

Lowe says that the real form has not always matched up with expectations over the course of this season.

“I wouldn’t even like to guess,” said Lowe. “It’s true that things haven’t gone to pattern from our point of view all year, and I was interested to read that Red Bull have that feeling as well. I think we’re all finding the data a little bit confusing on relative strengths of circuits this year. As always you take one race at a time and you deal with what you’re facing, and make the best of it.”

Regarding prospects for next weekend, he added: “It’s another one of these unusual circuits with the altitude, a different engine operating point and a different aerodynamic operating point because of the low density.

“It was an exciting race last year, arguably the best crowd of the year for the passion they had for their racing, and I remember that from the early 90s. It’s great to be going back there.”
