F1: Vettel has dismal qualifying result after team miscalculation
After failing to make it out of the first round of qualifying, Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel will start the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from the 16th starting spot.
"We thought we were quick enough, we thought the time was enough, but it turned out not to be," Vettel explained. "Not very spectacular, but that's what happened.
The German aborted his final run after the team thought he was safely through to the second round, but in the end he was bumped out. Vettel's teammate Kimi Raikkonen will start third.
"Kimi was quicker, and at the end I should have done a quicker lap, and we could have made it. But in the end, at that moment we thought it was enough. So quite costly, but I think we know what happened, and now we need to obviously start the race from further back. That's the challenge now.
"We try every weekend to do our best, and obviously this weekend we didn't get it right. It's a small mistake with a big consequence. For tomorrow, that means there's a lot of cars ahead of us that shouldn't be ahead of us, so it's up to us to turn it around."
