Formula E returns for inaugural Mexican ePrix
After a break of over a month, the FIA Formula E series returns to action this weekend from Mexico City for the first ever Mexico ePrix.
The field will take to a 1.33-mile roval-looking circuit at the Autodromo Hermaons Rodriguez, which also plays host to the Formula One Mexican Grand Prix.
With the circuit being the shortest on the Formula E calendar, combined with the crowds that the track brings out (remember the 2015 Mexican Grand Prix?), there is a lot to look forward to about this fifth round of the 2015-2016 season.
With two wins in the first four races of the season, Sebastien Buemi holds a four-point lead over Lucas di Grassi heading into Mexico with the rest of the field trailing behind them. Sam Bird sits third in points, 28 points back of Buemi, after taking the win last time out at Buenos Aires. However, it was Buemi’s drive from last on the grid to finish second that took up most of the highlight reel.
The fact that the circuit is a purpose-built road course as opposed to a race ran on city streets also makes this track stand out from others, and it remains to be seen how this difference in track conditions will have an impact on the on-track racing.
Qualifying airs at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday on FS2, followed by LIVE race coverage beginning 4:30 p.m. ET Saturday on FS1. Both shows will also be streamed simultaneously on the FOX Sports GO app.
