James Davison enters Indy 500 with A.J. Foyt Racing
LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) A.J. Foyt Racing has added a third car for the Indianapolis 500 with driver James Davison.
Davison is the 35th announced entry for the May race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Friday's announcement came a day after Dreyer & Reinbold Racing said it would field J.R. Hildebrand, guaranteeing bumping for the event for the first time since 2015. Only 33 cars will make IndyCar's marquee race.
Davison will drive the No. 33 Chevrolet as a teammate of Tony Kanaan and rookie Matheus Leist. The entry is a partnership with Jonathan Byrd's Racing, Hollinger MotorSport and Belardi Auto Racing.
Davison has three previous Indy 500 starts with a best finish of 16th in 2014. He was the replacement driver last year for Sebastien Bourdais after Bourdais was injured in a crash during qualifying. Davison started last and was in fifth with 17 laps remaining when the Australian was involved in a late accident.
