James Hinchcliffe Goes 'Walking Dead' On 'Dancing With The Stars'
IndyCar’s James Hinchcliffe channeled ‘The Walking Dead’ for his second ‘Dancing With The Stars’ routine, but how did it go over with the judges?
James Hinchcliffe went from the end of the IndyCar season to the zombie apocalypse, bringing a routine inspired by AMC’s The Walking Dead for his second performance on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.
After competing in the 2016 GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma that ended early Sunday morning, Hinchcliffe headed to Los Angeles in order to prepare for the reality show’s “TV Night” on Monday, which had all of the Season 23 couples selecting famous television themes.
Hinch and partner Sharna Burgess opted for the Walking Dead theme from Emmy Award-winning composer Bear McCreary, and delivered a paso doble that they had just a day and a half to create and master.
The results were anything but horrific. You can watch their performance below:
Despite the creativity, the DWTS judging panel scored Hinchcliffe and Burgess two points lower than last week. Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Julianne Hough all pronounced them 7/10, while Bruno Tonoli marked them at 8/10.
Both Inaba and Hough suggested that Hinchcliffe needs to work on his spacing, namely being less “vertical” as he moves, while Goodman was also roundly booed by the show’s studio audience for saying that he wanted to see dance moves he could recognize.

The cumulative score of 29 was still good enough for Hinchcliffe to be in a three-way tie for fourth best result of Monday night, with Jana Kramer and Marilu Henner. Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds (30), Terra Jole (31) and Laurie Hernandez (32) scored higher, with Hernandez still the top scoring celebrity and the favorite to win Season 23.
Hinchcliffe will now face his first Dancing with the Stars elimination Tuesday at 8 p.m. on ABC.
