Kevin Magnussen gives Renault its first F1 points since May

Kevin Magnussen praised his Renault team for its strategy calls after he finished 10th in Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix, in what was only the team's second points finish of 2016. It's first came in the hands of Magnussen at the Russian Grand Prix on May 1, where he placed seventh.

Magnussen was already in 10th on the first lap in Singapore, but strategy helped to keep him there as he only did two stops, running ultrasofts at the start and then two stints on supersofts. Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat was the only other driver to make that work.

"It was a tough race," said Magnussen. "I got a really good start, so thanks to Dave, my engineer, for doing the starts, and from there I did a good first lap, a really good strategy. The team figured out we could do two stints on supersofts, which is mega.

"We planned to do a soft stint at the end, because we thought it was going to be tight with the two-stop. A lot of people did three stops, and we were able to do two stops, and even improve the two stops by doing two stints on supersofts. A really good job by the guys, I really think everyone in the team deserves this."

Magnussen was relieved to get a good result after another frustrating qualifying session in Singapore.

"It's tough in qualifying this year, we never seem to be able to perform. We did a good job in Spa in qualifying but didn't manage to do the race. It's been tough this year and I think this should be another small boost for everyone."
