Lawyer reveals Michael Schumacher can't walk or stand during testimony
A lawyer for Michael Schumacher, Felix Damm, revealed that the seven-time Formula One World Champion is unable to walk or stand during testimony in a lawsuit against a German magazine, according to multiple published reports.
Back in December, the magazine, Bunte, used a quote from an unnamed friend of Schumacher stating that the former German racing driver was able to walk "a couple of steps."
At the time, Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm had described the claims as "irresponsible." Now, in a lawsuit against Bunte, Damm revealed to a German court that Schumacher is not only unable to walk, but also unable to stand even with the help of therapists.
Schumacher was involved in a serious skiing accident on Dec. 29, 2013 in the French Alps. He was placed in a medically-induced coma, from which he awoke in the summer of 2014. Then, he was returned to his home in Switzerland, where he has since been undergoing medical rehabilitation.
Schumacher remains the most statistically successful Formula One driver of all time, having 91 race wins and seven world championships to his name, including five in a row from 2000-2004 when he was racing for Ferrari.
The verdict in the case against Bunte is expected next month.
