Matheus Leist goes flag-to-flag to win the Freedom 100

Matheus Leist of Carlin Racing won the Indy Lights’ Freedom 100 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday. It was Leist's first Indy Lights win.

Leist led the 14-car field away for the first of 40 laps on Sunday afternoon at the famed speedway, but the yellow flag was soon flown for a crash in Turn 2.

Colton Herta made contact with his Andretti Autosport teammate Dalton Kellett on the first lap while battling for third. This tipped Herta’s car into a spin and he slid up into another team car being driven by Ryan Norman. Herta and Norman were out on the spot, but were both OK.

Leist led the field back to green and continued to run up front until seven laps to go when rookie Aaron Telitz challenged for the lead. However, he was unable to make the move on the outside stick and lost second to Kellett.

Kellett closed in on Leist on the final lap but had nothing for him, and in fact lost the second spot back to Telitz out of the final turn.
