Red Bull’s Max Verstappen says that his form has improved recently as he has had more opportunity to adjust his car to his liking.

The Dutchan initially followed his teammate’s setup choices after he switched from Toro Rosso in May, but latterly he has been following his own direction, and that he has benefited as a result.

“I think especially in the last few races I’ve been doing my own thing of course,” he said, “because you start to understand more the car, and which way you want to work. Even there you’re experiencing new stuff, and definitely you’re heading more in the direction you want.

“I mean, when I just jumped in, I took all the settings of Daniel of course, the brake pedal, throttle pedal, steering wheel, all these kinds of settings. And at one point you start to change them a bit to your liking, what you like more, and I think that’s what I’m doing at the moment.”

Verstappen said he made a big leap just two races ago: “Where I really turned it on was I think Malaysia, I changed some things in the car more to my liking, and it seemed to work. We’ll try to continue in that way.”
