Max Verstappen trying to forget Monaco frustration, but 'still not happy about it'

Max Verstappen says he’s tried to forget about Red Bull’s Monaco strategy calls, which saw him lose out to teammate Daniel Ricciardo when the Australian pitted later.

The Dutchman insisted that he’s tried to put his disappointment behind him after he made his frustration clear on the radio during the race.

“I mean, of course I'm still not happy about it, but to be honest, you know, you can't change the situation,” Verstappen said. “I didn't really think about racing too much after the Monaco Grand Prix, I did my things, I enjoyed time with my friends and family, and here we are again, you know. So we'll try to do a better job.”

Verstappen conceded that at the time it wasn’t easy to work out what was the best call.

“For me it's very difficult to see that, because I don't know what's happening behind me, I don't know who's stopping," he said. "I'm just following the instructions, but to be honest. I said to myself I don't want to think about it anymore, it's done now.”

Meanwhile, Verstappen admitted that Montreal won’t be the best circuit for the RB13.

“Yeah, it's not fantastic," said Verstappen. "I think Monaco was better for us, but we got some good things on the car, hopefully, again, some updates, so hopefully that will help us forward with the car, but then we are still of course lacking speed on the straights.

“But you know that's how it is through the whole season so we cannot change that. We'll just try to be there when it matters and hopefully some things happen in the front, you never know.”

Verstappen said that the car worked better in Monaco than in Barcelona, where a major update package was introduced.

“I think just the new parts on the car, they stabilized everything a bit more, you know," Verstappen said. "Maybe there were some miscalculations or whatever, and now with the new parts everything is in a better balance.

“And everything we change actually works again like it should do, like compared to last year, if you make those changes," he added. "I think it's getting better and better all the time so that's positive.”
