58-year-old motorcycle racer Dean Martin was killed in a crash at the Billown Circuit on the Isle of Man on Friday.

The incident took place during a practice session for an 850cc Classic motorcycle race. The session was not part of the Isle of Man TT, or even ran on the same course, but serves as part of the buildup to the event.

The incident, which took place at Billown Dip, injured one other competitor and two course marshals. The other rider, Jamie O’Brien, is described as being in a serious but stable condition. Both he and one of the course marshals were airlifted to Aintree Hospital in Liverpool for further treatment. While that marshal has head injuries, the other has ankle and shoulder injuries and is expected to be discharged from hospital later on Saturday.

Martin, a native of the Isle of Man, had raced many times on the course and leaves behind a partner, Hilary.

The race was abandoned and an investigation into the incident is ongoing. Practice for the Isle of Man TT kicked off on Saturday.
