Nico Rosberg expects 'exciting' race with Hamilton after close qualifying

Nico Rosberg says he’s not worried about wet conditions adding a random element to Sunday’s Brazilian GP as he tries to defend his World Championship lead over Lewis Hamilton.

Rosberg lost out in the battle for pole on Saturday, but from second place he’s determined to keep the pressure on his teammate.

“It was an exciting qualifying out there for sure, very close,” said Rosberg. “Lewis was just marginally quicker in the end. My lap was good as well, just not quick enough. But it’s OK, and anyway as we’ve seen this year pole isn’t always the guy who wins the race. I’m still optimistic for tomorrow, because of course I want to try and win the race tomorrow.”

Asked if he had more to lose if the race is wet, Rosberg said: “I don’t think of anything in terms of most to lose at the moment. I just look forward to tomorrow’s race. Whatever comes, comes. We have a great car in either condition, in the dry or in the wet. It will be exciting.

“I’m looking forward, and I’m going to try to get Lewis Into Turn One. That’s the plan. It’s not going to be easy, and the run to Turn One is very short here, so that doesn’t help here of course. But I’ll try everything I can, definitely.”
