On March 22, 2008, Hunter Abbott survived a fiery crash in the British GT Championship season-opener at Oulton Park in England.
Abbott was tagged by Peter Snowdon’s Aston Martin, causing his Ginetta G50 to go off course and into a barrier at over 100 mph between the Old Hall and Cascades corners. His car then barrel-rolled before coming to a rest on the other side of the barriers, where it then burst into flames.
A second camera angle shows Abbott’s struggle to escape from his burning car:
Abbott was able to walk away with nothing more than minor burns and injuries, and then returned two weeks later at Knockhill, where he won.
He continues to race today in the British Touring Car Championship.
