Rahal cruises to victory in Detroit GP; Honda sweeps podium
Graham Rahal comfortably cruised to a six-plus second victory of Scott Dixon in Saturday’s Detroit Grand Prix.
In fact, Rahal had such a comfortable lead that he messed around with his push-to-pass system as he dominated the field.
"I pressed it a couple times just for kicks," Rahal said in post-race with a grin on his face.
Rahal started the race from the pole and lead a career-high 55 of 70 laps.
"I never felt that confident in my career," Rahal said after his fifth career victory and fourth in two-plus years. "If everything went well, I knew we were going to be hard to beat. I just didn't want to mess up."
Scott Dixon and James Hinchcliffe filled the podium to give Honda a clean sweep.
"Kudos for Honda for sweeping in the podium," Dixon said. "In the Motor City, that's always nice."
Rahal’s win continued a streak of seven different winners to start the IndyCar season.
"That doesn't happen in other motor sports," Rahal said. "Period."
