RC Enerson Rejoins Dale Coyne Racing For Final Two Races
Former Indy Lights driver RC Enerson will return to Dale Coyne Racing for the final two Verizon IndyCar Series races at Watkins Glen and Sonoma.
Dale Coyne Racing announced this week that it has recalled RC Enerson to pilot the No. 19 DCR entry for the remainder of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season.
Enerson will rejoin the team for this weekend’s Grand Prix at the Glen in Watkins Glen, New York and then compete in the Sep. 18 GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma at California’s Sonoma Raceway.
The teenager made his IndyCar debut in July’s Honda Indy Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio and impressed at various points during the day, but wound up finishing 19th – the last car to still be running in the race.
He withdrew from Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ Indy Lights program earlier this year in order to independently pursue an IndyCar ride.
Enerson participated in the Watkins Glen testing day that took place earlier this month and is hopeful that returning there to race will help him as he seeks to land a longer race deal for the 2017 season.
“We of course want to find as much sponsorship as we can; that would be the first goal, and then it’s putting together the best two races we can,” he told Racer of what he’s aiming for going back to DCR. “It’s getting to the checkered flag, showing our pace, and I’d say before we can look at 2017, we need to put together two impressive races.”
Enerson takes over the No. 19 from Gabby Chaves, who returned to the car on Saturday in order to complete the resumed 2016 Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway. Chaves finished 14th after beginning the race in 22nd.
Pippa Mann and Luca Filippi have also served stints in DCR’s second entry during the 2016 season. Conor Daly is the team’s sole full-time driver.
The Grand Prix at The Glen takes place Sunday, Sep. 4 at 2:37 p.m. ET/11:37 a.m. PT from Watkins Glen International. Race broadcast begins at 2 p.m. ET/11 am. ET on NBCSN.
