Tony Kanaan hits back after Lewis Hamilton's comments on IndyCar
When it comes to the war on which is better, F1 or IndyCar, I confess that I often side with the former - but Tony Kanaan won this battle.
Ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, F1 driver Lewis Hamilton was asked what he thought about Fernando Alonso racing in the Indianapolis 500.
“Fernando, in his first qualifying, came fifth. Does that say something about (the level) of IndyCar?” Hamilton told L’Equipe. “Great drivers, if they can’t succeed in Formula One, look for titles in other races, but to see him come fifth against drivers who do this all year around is... interesting.”
Point 1 to Hamilton.
However, speaking at the Indianapolis 500 banquet following the 101st running of the event, IndyCar Series driver Tony Kanaan offered his counterargument while addressing Fernando Alonso.
“You’re humble, not like your other fellow F1 drivers that made some comments this month,” said Kanaan. “What are you going to say? [Hamilton] raced two cars last year and finished second so I can’t think I can say a lot about him.”
Nice comeback Kanaan.
Obviously many can argue that Hamilton has a point, and there’s also validity to the fact that Hamilton would’ve probably won the title had his engine held up in Malaysia.
At the end of the day, however, it’s just great to see drivers getting mixed up in both worlds again and I hope to see more of it in the future.
