Austin Dillon runs into bad luck that costs him in AAA 400 at Dover
One of the pleasant surprises of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season so far has been the performance of the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet of Austin Dillon, who scored six top-10 finishes in the first 11 races of the year.
But Dillon’s luck went terribly bad in Sunday’s AAA 400 Drive For Autism at Dover International Speedway.
On Lap 184, something broke on the right-front of Dillon’s car as he headed into Turn 3. And when it did, Dillon’s RCR Chevy turned hard right into the wall, putting a premature end to his hopes for another strong finish.
Afterwards, Larson suspected a brake failure as the culprit.
“I’ve never blown up a rotor on the right front,” said Dillon. “I was having to pump them there the last couple of restarts to get some pressure. It’s just a bummer. I feel bad for AAA and all these guys who have worked hard all weekend. We had a solid car, just a part failure. It’s part of racing and we’ll be back next week. But, hopefully we can get back out there and finish some laps off.”
