Brad Keselowski, Team Penske penalized after failing Michigan inspection

Published Aug. 31, 2016 5:24 p.m. ET

Brad Keselowski was penalized 10 points and his crew chief Paul Wolfe was fined $15,000 after the No. 2 Team Penske Ford Fusion failed post-race tech on the NASCAR Laser Inspection System following Sunday's Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

Team owner Roger Penske was also docked 10 car owner points.

With two races left in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regular season, the penalty has no real impact on Keselowski's title hopes. With four victories to date, Keselowski and Kyle Busch are tied for the series lead and likely will enter the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup as the top two seeds.

However, if Keselowski or anyone else incurs a similar penalty during the Chase, it could knock him out of championship contention.
