Check out updated race for the Chase XFINITY points after Iowa

Published Jul. 30, 2016 11:17 p.m. ET

With just seven races remaining in the regular season before the inaugural XFINITY Series Chase for the championship commences, the battle for the 12 playoff berths continues to heat up.

While there wasn't a whole lot of movement, in the points standings after Saturday night's Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway, where Erik Jones earned his third win of the season, it did produce a new points leader in Elliott Sadler, who finished third in the race.

The victory moved Jones up one spot to fourth in the points. But he's a lock for the Chase by virtue of his three wins.

The only other series regulars guaranteed spots in the Chase via having won a race are points leader Sadler and Daniel Suarez, Jones' Joe Gibbs Racing teammate who is second in points after swapping places with Sadler. Both Sadler and Suarez have one win apiece this season.

Twelve drivers will qualify for the seven-race XFINITY Chase, which will begin at Kentucky Speedway on Sept. 24, and will feature two elimination rounds before the Championship 4 drivers are determined for a winner-takes-all season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The other drivers currently on the right side of the Chase cutoff line are Ty Dillon, who finished second at Iowa, Justin Allgaier, Brendan Gaughan, Brennan Poole, Brandon Jones, Darrell Wallace Jr., Ryan Reed, Ryan Sieg and Blake Koch.
