Hour 245 of Daytona countdown: Bobby Allison's 500 legacy

Published Feb. 16, 2017 6:40 p.m. ET

As FOX Sports continues to count down to the 2017 Daytona 500 (live on FOX on Feb. 26), we salute the great Hall of Famer Bobby Allison on Hour 245.

Allison led precisely 245 laps in the Daytona 500 in his career, winning the Great American Race three times -- in 1978, 1982 and 1988.

The 1988 race was even more special than the others. Allison out-dueled his son, Davey, to take the checkered flag while Davey Allison finished second to make it the first and so far only 1-2 father-son finish in Daytona 500 history.

At age 50, Allison also became the oldest driver to ever win the prestigious race.

It also proved to be Allison's last career victory when he suffered career-ending injuries following a horrific wreck at Pocono later in the '88 season.
