Kurt Busch sets NASCAR record with run at Pocono Raceway
Normally, finishing 10th in a race wouldn't be a great cause for celebration. But Kurt Busch's run at Pocono Raceway on Monday earned him a place in the NASCAR record book.
With his result in the Pennsylvania 400, Busch has now completed every single lap run in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season this year.
No one before him had ever finished on the lead lap for 21 NASCAR Premier Series races in a row. Not Richard Petty, not Dale Earnhardt and not Jimmie Johnson.
It's impressive accomplishment for the 2004 NASCAR champion.
Busch, who won the first Pocono race of the season back in June, credited his Stewart-Haas Racing team for his consistency.
"It's nice to be in position to have completed all the laps," said Busch. "That is done with a lot of team work. It's not just one person. It starts at the shop with the quality of cars and congratulations to everybody that has helped be part of this sequence."
That said, Busch believes the team has more work to do.
"We are finishing on the lead lap, we are finishing top 10 every week," said Busch. "We just know that we need to find a little bit more to be competitive once the Chase starts. All-in-all I can't say thank you enough to everybody on the No. 41 SHR car."
