Before Kyle Busch could even lay down a lap on Friday in the opening practice for the Sprint Cup Series at Texas Motor Speedway, he had a tire issue and got into the wall hard.
His Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 team decided to immediately flip to a backup car and start prepping it for the weekend.
All four JGR teams brought new cars with them to Texas designed specifically for this race so it might be more of a disadvantage for Busch to move to the backup car since it will have an old chassis compared to the new one.
Busch enters the weekend ranked fourth in the points standings with a four-point lead over Joey Logano for the final transfer spot to the Championship 4.
