Kyle Larson has potential victory slip away in Sprint All-Star Race
Kyle Larson has all the potential to win a Sprint Cup Series race, it's just a matter of when.
After finishing second to Matt Kenseth at Dover International Speedway nearly one week ago, Larson let another win slip away, this time to race winner Joey Logano in Saturday night's Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Larson started third in the third and final segment, working his way up to the top spot on the first lap.
It was smooth sailing for the No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing driver until Logano ran him down, passing him in Turn 4 with just two laps remaining. Larson would go on to finish 16th.
"I was able to clear them and I thought I would pull away pretty easily because I was really good on short runs," Larson said of his solid restart. "Joey (Logano) and their team must have done a really good job at making the right adjustments. We made the car a little bit better, but I guess we really didn't take a big enough swing to tighten up."
Racing in his first All-Star event, Larson was also one of many drivers who were thoroughly confused by the new format that proved to be problematic over the course of the race.
"I know the caution fell at the wrong time for this format, because it put a lot of people a lap down," Larson said. "It allowed me to line up thrid on the last restart with four tires. Nobody really expected that, but that's what happened and it worked out in our favor."
