Larson, Busch brothers penalized by NASCAR
When practiced opened Friday for the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway, it was missing a couple of Kyles. Or at least their cars.
Specifically, the cars of defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Kyle Busch and fellow competitor Kyle Larson were not on track when the session began. That’s because they were held out of the first 30 minutes of practice by NASCAR for violating post-race procedures last Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
There, NBC Sports reported, Busch and Larson both swerved on their respective cool-down laps following Jimmie Johnson’s victory in the Bank of America 500.
In recent weeks, drivers have started swerving after races end to try and get the car back in alignment to pass NASCAR’s post-race laser inspection station or LIS.
But before the Charlotte race, NASCAR officials ordered teams to discontinue the process and they evidently felt Busch and Larson crossed the line.
Also, Kurt Busch will lose the right to select a pit stall for the race because his No. 41 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet failed pre-race template inspection at Charlotte, the fourth time this year that the car has flunked that test.
