Lofton recovering from broken thumb

Published Oct. 21, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Justin Lofton is recovering from a fractured left thumb he sustained in a wild crash on the final lap of the NASCAR Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway.

Lofton was taken to Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham after 12 trucks wrecked in a crowded dash to the finish line in front of the main grandstand. The other drivers were treated at the infield care center and released.

Team spokeswoman Lisa Constable says Lofton will be fitted with a cast that allows him to grip the steering wheel. He plans to compete in his next scheduled race at Texas Motor Speedway on Nov. 1.

Lofton has competed in seven Truck events this season, with a couple of top-10 finishes.
