Miracle at Daytona: The Tiny Lund Story airs Thursday on 'Race Hub'
Beyond the Wheel Short Film: Miracle at Daytona - The Tiny Lund Story narrated by Luke Wilson will air Thursday at 6 p.m. on FS1’s “NASCAR Race Hub.”
It is truly an epic tale of a common man displaying uncommon courage in saving the life of a fellow racer.
DeWayne “Tiny” Lund didn’t have a ride when he pulled into the Daytona infield in February 1963 and saw Marvin Panch trapped in a burning Maserati sports car that had flipped over and caught fire after a crash.
In a heroic gesture, the 6-foot-5 270-pound Lund stopped his car, got out and ran towards the flaming car. Lund lifted Panch’s car up, while others pulled the badly burned driver from the wreckage.
In gratitude, Glen and Leonard Wood let Lund drive the car Panch was supposed to run in the Daytona 500. Lund won the race and did so on a single set of tires, something that’s never been done before or since.
This Beyond the Wheel Short Film tells one of the greatest stories ever at NASCAR’s most important track. Tune in to “NASCAR Race Hub” Thursday at 6 p.m. to watch it.
