NASCAR: Brian France Refutes Claims About Monster Deal
It was only a couple of weeks ago that NASCAR announced Monster Energy as the new sponsor of their premier series, replacing Sprint. Since the announcement there have still been many questions and now some reports are coming out about the deal which might not be true.
On Tuesday morning NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France called into SiriusXM NASCAR Radio to refute some claims that has been made by the SportsBusiness Journal concerning the agreement between Monster Energy and NASCAR. According to the report SportsBusiness report, the new deal between NASCAR and Monster might not last that long and is for considerably less money than the previous deal with Sprint.
While not getting into too much detail, France was quick to call that report inaccurate.
Those are not accurate numbers. We have a good understanding of where this relationship is going to be, so no, those are not accurate numbers … [Monster Energy is] excited about being here. My view is, this is the biggest entitlement or biggest sponsorship yet for their company, and although they’re very successful … my view is, they’re going to build on for a long time. That’s the sense of it with me, and I made this particular sales call myself, so I have a good sense of it, and I’m a big believer in those guys. They really have an understanding of what we’re all trying to do together.
France also addressed the fact that a name for the premier series has yet to be announced. According to France those talks have begun, which is good since the 2017 Daytona 500 is only about nine weeks away.
We’re working together with them. A lot of it is, they know motorsports, so they’re not just along for the ride, they have some real good opinions on what they want to get done here as our entitlement sponsor. So, we’re going to listen to them because they’re obviously the most important partner; it’s all going to be good.
Initially it was though that the series would be called the NASCAR Monster Energy Series, and while it still might be, nothing has been confirmed.
Be sure to follow along with BTF in the coming weeks as an announcement about the name of the series should be coming soon as it will be needed for marketing, merchandise and more heading into the start of the 2017 season.
