The new look for the Martinsville logo will also feature a tagline of “The Original.” This tagline pays homage and respect to the fact that of all the original tracks on NASCAR’s 1949 schedule, only Martinsville remains. Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell spoke about the new logo and paying respect to the history of the track in an interview that is featured on the track’s website.
Seventy years is something to be really proud of and something we’re taking great pride in. I can’t think of a more fitting way to kick off the celebration of 70 years. This track and this sport were his passions and to have him honored this year is truly amazing.
NASCAR action is set to return to Martinsville Speedway the weekend of March 31-April 2, 2017. That race weekend will be the STP 500 race weekend and will feature action from the truck series and NASCAR’s premier series which is now sponsored by Monster Energy.
The last time that NASCAR’s premier series was at the track that most resembles a paper clip in the spring, it was 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Kyle Busch finding his way to victory lane. Busch became that first driver to win both the truck race and the Cup Series race in the same weekend.
When NASCAR returns to Martinsville this spring, Busch will surely be looking to repeat.
