Next in line: Which drivers will be the next to visit Victory Lane?
We are now officially halfway through the NASCAR Sprint Cup regular season. Racing at Pocono will mark the beginning of the final 13 race-stretch until the 2015 Chase field is set. If you look at the list of drivers who haven't won yet, you will find some pretty big names.
For me, with the tracks that are coming up, I am leaning toward Jeff Gordon and teammate Kasey Kahne as my two top picks to get a win before the Chase begins. With the fact that Jimmie Johnson has four wins already and Dale Earnhardt Jr. with a win as well, that frees up Hendrick Motorsports -- to a certain extent -- to focus more of their resources on Jeff and Kasey to help them make the Chase.
Another organization that seems to finally be finding their way, and possibly could be a threat, is Roush Fenway Racing. You just never know, but I could see Greg Biffle from their camp pulling off a win at a place like Michigan to also make the 2015 Chase.
I'm also wondering if we will get another surprise winner in the Chase from Daytona over Fourth of July weekend, like we did last year with Aric Armirola. Before Daytona, we head to the road course of Sonoma. So, you have to start thinking about someone like AJ Allmendinger, who had a surprise win last year on the road course of Watkins Glen.
I also still believe Martin Truex Jr. is going to win a race. I also know he is going to make the Chase.
Based on how much they struggled last year, that is still the feel good story of 2015. They truly are maximizing the alliance with Richard Childress Racing. So I feel they definitely have everything in place to make a run for the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup championship.
