No rest for Sprint Cup teams testing Phoenix International Raceway

Published Oct. 12, 2015 3:15 p.m. ET

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams were slated to have a rare Sunday off after Saturday night's Bank of America 500. However, when rains pelted Charlotte Motor Speedway, the race was postponed until Sunday and that day of rest, relaxation and family time was suddenly gone.

With this season already pushing team members to the limit, four teams got even less rest after Sunday's 500-mile race, as they quickly turned around and headed to Phoenix International Raceway for a three-day test.

AJ Allmendinger, Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth, Brad Keselowski and their respective teams will spend the next two days taking part in the Goodyear tire test, followed by an open test day on Wednesday.

Coming off an extended weekend at Charlotte, these teams will then head directly to Kansas Speedway for this weekend's Sprint Cup Series events.

Stewart-Haas Racing crew chief Tony Gibson indicated he would not see his family for eight days due to the schedule.

While crew members know what they get into when joining Sprint Cup organizations, the grind never gets any easier, especially when trying to maintain a work-life balance.
