Smith to drive Martinsville Cup race

Regan Smith will pilot the No. 51 Phoenix Racing Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway on April 7.

Smith, who currently pilots the No. 7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet in the Nationwide Series, established Phoenix Racing's position among the top 10 in owners points with his seventh-place finish in the Daytona 500. He competed in two races with Phoenix last year.

AJ Allmendinger's two top-15 performances, at Phoenix International Raceway and Bristol Motor Speedway, helped solidify the team's early success this season. Allmendinger, who was originally tabbed to drive for team owner James Finch's Phoenix team at Martinsville, will make his IndyCar Series debut for Roger Penske at Barber Motorsports Park that weekend.

Smith is fourth in Nationwide Series points. He won his first Nationwide race with JRM in the season finale last year at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
