Sprint Cup Practice 2 results from Martinsville Speedway
Jamie McMurray of Chip Ganassi Racing set the pace during Saturday’s first of two practices for the Goody’s Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway.
During the early morning practice, McMurray had a best lap of 96.780 miles per hour around the 0.526-mile Martinsville short track, tops among the 40 cars in the field for Sunday’s race.
Second fast was Joey Logano, who coincidentally qualified second behind pole-winner Martin Truex Jr. Logano’s fastest lap was 96.736 mph in his No. 22 Team Penske Ford.
David Ragan, Truex, and AJ Allmendinger completed the top five.
The final Happy Hour round of practice is scheduled for noon ET.
The Goody’s Fast Relief 500 is the first of three races in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Round of 8. If one of the eight drivers still in title contention wins at Martinsville, he will lock himself into the championship race at Homestead-Miami Speedway in three weeks.
