Andrei Kirilenko to sign with Russian team

Andrei Kirilenko's NBA season is likely over, but that doesn't mean he's done playing basketball. From David Pick of Eurobasket.com:

It wasn't that long ago when Kirilenko was a Brooklyn Net, playing in his last game for Lionel Hollins & Co. on Nov. 13 before leaving the team for personal reasons. That early-season contest against the Golden State Warriors was the last time Kirilenko played in a professional basketball game. He was since traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in a cap-relieving deal, only never to report to Sixers camp.

It's been an awkward few months for the guy known as one of the kinder souls in the NBA.

When Kirilenko first arrived in Philly, the thought was that the organization would immediately waive him and allow him to sign elsewhere. That didn't happen, though. General manager Sam Hinkie held onto Kirilenko even as the Russian stayed attending to personal matters away from the team. Eventually, the 76ers suspended him in early January.

It was almost like when someone breaks up with a significant other only to hear the one suffering from heartbreak scream, "It's fine! I never wanted you here anyway!!" NBA breakups can be so dramatic.

Anyway, once Kirilanko and his $3.3 million salary for this season clear waivers (likely), it appears he will return to CSKA Moscow, for whom he played back in 2011-12. He averaged 12.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game that year.
