Are the Celtics still interested in DeMarcus Cousins?

Published Dec. 16, 2015 9:53 a.m. ET

The Boston Celtics have one of the NBA's toughest defenses, and are deep at almost every position. But they still lack a star who impacts the game on both ends and can unlock their offense in the postseason.

DeMarcus Cousins might be their guy, and the Celtics aren't finished hunting him, per ESPN:

Boston's frontcourt is crowded, but it's more than likely a few guys currently in it would ship to Sacramento in any hypothetical deal (especially Jared Sullinger and/or Kelly Olynyk).

Cousins has his issues, but he'd give Boston a serious boost in the middle, and open the floor up for their outside shooters to operate. Any deal involving a player of Cousins' magnitude is rare, though, so the Celtics probably shouldn't hold their breath.

It doesn't seem like the Boston Celtics have made much of an effort to hide their desire to acquire All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins in recent months. With the Sacramento Kings now listening to offers, the Celtics have reportedly jumped back into the mix ahead of their matchup with emerging big man Andre Drummond. As the Cousins rumor continues to swirl, Boston will try to regroup from an ugly home loss with its fifth win in six road games Wednesday night against the Detroit Pistons.
