Boston Celtics forward Danilo Gallinari out with torn ACL
Danilo Gallinari, who signed a two-year, $13.2 million contract with the Boston Celtics last month, tore his ACL while playing in a FIBA World Cup qualifying game for the Italian national team.
The injury occurred back on Aug. 27 and could cause Gallinari to miss the entire 2022-23 NBA season.
Gallinari previously tore the same ACL (left knee) in April 2013, causing him to miss the 2013-14 season after undergoing a pair of surgeries.
Gallinari took to Twitter on Friday, letting fans know that he is determined to try and return to action this upcoming season.
After spending his first three NBA seasons with the New York Knicks, the 14-year veteran spent six years with the Denver Nuggets before taking a tour around the league. Gallinari had stops with the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Atlanta Hawks before landing with the Celtics.
Gallinari, 34, averaged 11.7 points per game last year with Atlanta, the lowest since his rookie season, along with 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists, while shooting 43.4% from the field and 38.1% from 3-point range in 25.3 minutes per game.
