Boston is reportedly 'intent on moving up in the draft'

Despite all their promising financial flexibility, future draft picks and rumored link to a few big-name free agents, the Boston Celtics are still rebuilding. And the higher the pick they get in this year's draft, the better.

ESPN's Chad Ford recently said as much in his latest mock draft. Here's more:

"The Celtics seem to be intent on moving up in the draft. The question is whether their assets (a bunch of solid young players and some middling first-round picks) can get them there."

That's interesting news. Every team would love to move up in the draft, but the Celtics are legitimately trying to make it happen. Furthermore, as pointed out by CelticsBlog's Jeff Clark, Ford goes on to report that several teams with higher picks may be looking to trade down:

"After the first five picks are off the board, things will start to get interesting. Five of the next six teams in the draft -- the Kings, Pistons, Hornets, Heat and Pacers -- all have playoff aspirations next season and if the right offer comes along, these picks can definitely be had."

Apparently Boston has more than a few potential partners to make something happen, but it's tough to say what exactly they have to offer that those teams may want. Future picks won't cut it. Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk will probably be on the table, but asking for Marcus Smart is likely a non-starter.
