Cavaliers' Jones suspended 1 game for groin shot to Raptors' Biyombo
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Dahntay Jones has been suspended one game without pay for striking Toronto Raptors center Bismack Biyombo in the groin, the league announced on Sunday. The incident occurred with 17.6 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of the Raptors' 99-84 win over the Cavaliers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals, and somewhat incredibly, went without a whistle in real time.
"I got hit in the area that I wasn't supposed to be hit on," Biyombo said afterward. "A private area, so to speak. Whenever the league has a chance, they probably want to take a look. That's all I can say on that one."
For those wondering if this might have simply been incidental contact, keep in mind that Biyombo had just destroyed Cleveland with a 26-rebound performance, and that Jones has a long history of being involved in plays like these.
Jones is not a member of the Cavaliers' regular rotation, and was only in the game because it had already been decided. He'll serve his suspension during Monday's Game 4, which will tip off at the Air Canada Centre at 8:30 p.m. ET.
