Cavs' Shumpert out with groin injury

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) The Cavaliers could be missing two guards when they host Oklahoma City.

Iman Shumpert, who just returned from a wrist injury sustained during the preseason, will miss Thursday night's game with a strained right groin. Also, starting point guard Mo Williams is listed as questionable with a sprained right thumb.

Shumpert got hurt on Tuesday night in Cleveland's win over Boston. It was just his second game back after missing the first 21 games this season following wrist surgery.

The Cavs did not put a timeframe on a return for Shumpert, perhaps the team's best defensive player who came to Cleveland last season in a trade with the New York Knicks.

The team revealed Williams' thumb issue following the team's morning shootaround. It's not clear when Williams, averaging 13 points and 4.1 assists, sustained his injury.

Coach David Blatt is expected to give a further update during his pregame interview session.

Not having the guards would make it tougher for the Cavs to contain Thunder star guard Russell Westbrook, one of the league's top scorers and most explosive players.

While Shumpert recovers, the team is also awaiting the return of All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving, who hasn't played since breaking his left kneecap in Game 1 of last season's NBA Finals.

Irving traveled with the Cavs on their road trip to Orlando and Boston, but did not play. The team is being cautious with Irving, who has battled injuries throughout his career.

The Cavs host Philadelphia on Sunday.
