DeMarcus Cousins doesn't seem too worried about getting traded
DeMarcus Cousins has been in trade talks for seemingly as long as he’s been in a Sacramento Kings uniform, and that’ll likely intensify with this week’s de facto start of the NBA trading season – the passing of the Dec. 15 deadline in which free agents signed last summer can be included in deals.
But Cousins, for one, doesn’t think he’s going anywhere before the league’s Feb. 23 trading deadline, and he recently told ESPN.com as much:
“Unless you know something I don’t. … I talk to management a lot. We’re on the same page. I’m not worried about it. To know that you’re wanted throughout the league ... I’d be worried if nobody wanted me. Then I’d have a situation on my hands. But I’m happy where I am. I’m happy with this team. I’m in a great place.”
So even though both the big man and the team are saying all the right things, the time is coming where it might not matter whether the Kings and Cousins are on the same page. If they remain a Western Conference afterthought, he’ll soon have far better opportunities to win – if not more money – available elsewhere, and Sacramento will be forced to get something in return.
