DeMarcus Cousins on pace to break a very bad personal record

DeMarcus Cousins is closing in on a mile marker.

Its been a lot of working to get here. A lot of blood, sweat and screaming. But he's right there. Close enough to taste it.

Cousins is one technical foul from notching his personal record for technicals in a single season—17, a line he set back in 2012.

The Kings center picked up his 16th technical of the season Wednesday night after clapping very excitedly in response to a call toward the end of the Kings' 120-110 win over Washington.

Bleacher Report tweeted video of the tech. Both Cousins and Rondo were booked for the same act: offering the most sarcastic applause they could manage.

Perfect pair? Perfect pair.

Now, Cousins is now looking at a familiar one-game suspension for the foul-the automatic punishment any player who reaches the golden 16 technical mark in a single season.

He's the first to reach the NBA suspension threshold so far. He also might be the only one this year. Cousins is blowing everyone away on the technical foul leaderboard, as he's wont to do. The closest competition he has is Isaiah Thomas and Chris Paul, who are tied at 12 techs apiece. But don't count out George Karl, who's racked up a sneaky eight techs from the sideline.

That's a healthy lead for a guy who's become the heir apparent to the Rasheed Wallace throne. Like Sheed, Cousins is consistently atop the technical leaderboard at the end of every. Granted, it's almost impossible that he will ever be able to match the gaudy numbers of Wallace in his prime.

For reference, this is how far Boogie is from matching Sheed's 41-tech, 2000-2001 season with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Dream big, DeMarcus. All this could be yours one day.
