Dennis Scott knows why ex-NBA players are jealous of Steph Curry
Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry is having a season for the ages, one so otherworldly that's it's actually blowing the minds of almost every former player who's asked for an opinion.
From Oscar Robertson to Charles Barkley to Walt Frazier, all-time Hall of Fame figures continue to denigrate Curry for no rational reason. Phil Jackson didn't insult Curry, but he did compare him to Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.
Former Orlando Magic guard Dennis Scott, a 3-point marksman who retired in 2000, refuses to join them, and instead understands just how incredible Curry's accomplishments truly are (via CSN Bay Area):
“They couldn’t do it,” Dennis Scott said Tuesday. “It’s just that simple. “That’s why we shooters are not mad at him."
Scott was before his time. He nailed an NBA-record 267 threes in 1996, and made over 40 percent of his outside shots in three of his 10 seasons.
If anyone understands how difficult it is to knock down even one three ball in the NBA, it's Scott, who had the benefit of playing off Shaquille O'Neal and Anfernee Hardaway the year he set the record.
Scott wasn't Orlando's first or second option, and opposing defenses didn't tirelessly design their entire game-plan to stop him—which is exactly what Curry faces on a nightly basis. For the reigning MVP to do what he's doing is even more impressive than Scott, and the former Magic star isn't insecure about it in the slightest way.
