French-born Batum dons 'Je Suis Charlie' T-shirt before Blazers' game
In the wake of Wednesday’s terrorist attack on satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris, “Je suis Charlie” (“I am Charlie”) quickly became a global trend as people denounced the shootings that killed 12.
On Thursday, the movement crossed into the sports world as French-born Trail Blazers forward Nicolas Batum took the court in Portland wearing a “Je suis Charlie” T-shirt for warm-ups.

Charlie Hebdo is a French magazine specializing in poking fun at those in power, across political, religious and various other lines; the magazine's depictions of Islamic prophet Muhammad ignited the biggest controversies. During lunchtime Wednesday, two masked gunmen stormed the magazine's offices and killed nine magazine staffers / contributors, along with a caterer and two police officers. Eleven others were wounded.
French police named the two suspects as Cherif Kouachi, 32, and Said Kouachi, 34, brothers born in France to Algerian parents. As of late Thursday night, they remained at-large.
