Governor of New York says he injured his hand ... on a basketball rim

Legislation isn't the only thing New York governor Andrew Cuomo can pass. Bring a basketball into the mix.

Apparently, the governor loves balling, and he recently hurt his hand doing so. That's not the weird part, though. Any spry guy, let alone 58-year-old man, can injure himself trying to get fancy at the Y. The story here is the way he sustained the pain.

From the New York Post:

Chris said --€” and an administration official later confirmed to the Post --€” that Governor Andrew had a torn ligament in his right hand.

For his part, the governor told the guests he hurt his right hand after it hit the rim during the game.

So, wait. Hold up. Cuomo can dunk? Or at least, he can get up enough so that he can attempt to dunk and then fail in doing so but not before smashing his hand on the rim hard enough to hurt it?

So many follow-up questions:

1. Is he friends with Arne Duncan, the Secretary of Education who's appeared in the NBA All-Star celebrity game, and have they ever played against each other? How can we get those two guarding each other in the celebrity game come February?

2. How high was the rim? We just assume it's 10 feet, but who knows? Maybe he was just playing against his brother on the mini-hoop he's had attached to his closet since he was 11 years old. (Yes, in this scenario, the governor of New York still lives with his parents in the bedroom in which he grew up.)

3. Why did no one follow up to ask if Cuomo could dunk? How is this not the immediate reaction anyone would have?

4. How intense was this injury? Don't most missed dunks turn into "Shaqtin' a Fool" moments? Is there video of this? Can we turn it over to Ernie and Chuck and the crew? Is Andrew Cuomo the next JaVale McGee?
