Here's how Heat's Winslow learned about Celtics' interest on draft night
The Boston Celtics really wanted Justise Winslow on draft night, and with good reason. They were willing to offer as many as four first-round picks for the Duke freshman, but were rebuffed by the Charlotte Hornets, who decided to keep their ninth overall pick and take Frank Kaminsky instead.
Here's what that night was like for Winslow, per MassLive:
Winslow is averaging 7.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game as one of Miami's key subs off the bench. His defense is already played at a high level, too.
There's no doubt that the Celtics could really use him for the next 10 years.
"I just heard rumors," he said. "But other than that, nah. They were trying to trade a lot of picks and stuff for me, but other than that, nah, not really any interaction." Winslow didn't work out for the Celtics -- without any lottery picks, they were out of his range -- but interviewed with head coach Brad Stevens at the NBA Draft combine. After the sea of meetings prospects go through that week, Winslow said he no longer remembers anything about the interview. "I remember just the rumors after the draft," he said, "hearing what they were willing to give up. But I'm here (in Miami), so. I mean. I know the staff and some players a little bit, but that's about all the interaction."
