Strengths

Athleticism/Size:

Williams is a tremendous athlete and is extremely physical. He is strong, but also has great length with a 7’4” wingspan. He is an absolute beast in the paint, and is one of the most physically gifted prospects.

Rebounding:

Williams is ranked third in the SEC in rebounding with 7.4 rebounds per game. His physicality down low and his aggressiveness make him a nightmare to box out in the paint. He also has a great motor, showing great effort on the boards. For only playing 24 minutes per game, he is extremely effective and efficient as a rebounder.

Defensive potential:

Williams is second in the SEC with 2.5 blocks per game. His size and length give him a huge advantage on the defensive end. He will be a threat as a shot blocker at the next level, and his physical tools will be able to help him keep up with the athletes that play power forward in the NBA. He is just scratching the surface with his defensive potential.

Weaknesses

Offense/Perimeter Game:

Although Williams is shooting 56.8% from the field, a lot of his baskets come close to the rim with layups and dunks. He doesn’t have much of an expanded shooting range. He is 0-13 from 3-point range this year, and is also not a very good foul shooter, only shooting at 61.1%. He will need to develop his shooting more and more, so that he can add that dimension to his game in the NBA.

Raw:

Williams is still a work in progress type of prospect, and is still very raw, especially on the offensive end. He doesn’t have a great skill set, as he gets by mostly on his athleticism, toughness, and size.

Overview

Compared to some of the other freshmen, Williams was not a very well known name coming into this college basketball season, but he has been sliding up draft boards. He has great upside due to his defensive potential and is physical attributes. His offensive game still needs work, but people are very intrigued by what his game could be at the next level. I see Williams as a mid first round draft selection.
